Window is an operating system that controls your computers hardware is not capable of communicating to you directly itself. It needs a communications medium is called operating system.


    Windows is a GUI operating system develops 1990 by Microsoft Corporation Company.
Window was loaded thought DOS in starting. After sometime windows have been self loaded. The loading file of windows in “win.com” and extension is exe.
The first version of windows is windows 3.1 other version windows 3.11, windows 4.0, windows 3.5, windows 95, windows 2000, windows XP.
Latest version Windows7, Windows 8, Windows 9 etc


Booting

The boot word is taken from boots track word. Boots track is a complete process to load operating system from secondary memory to primary memory.
In this process also check problems of different sectors.
There are two types of booting:
1. Cold Booting (Soft booting)
2. Warm Booting (Hard booting)

Components of Windows

Desktop: After completing the booting process computer displays the first screen or the home screen of computer is called Desktop.

Task Bar: Taskbar is the grey horizontal line location at the bottom of the desktop with start button and indicators. It is especially used for switching between opened programs and folders.
Start Button: It is the especial button, is used to start almost all of the programs based on the windows. When you click the start button, you will see a menu, which contains everything you need to begin using windows.
Date and time Zone:  The right part of task bar where time is displayed.
Notification Area:  the left side of date time zone is called notifications area. This area shows the new hardware device.
Icon: Icon is a small graphics of any file or program.
Folder:  Folder is as a directory or space to keep other files and folders.
My Computer: My computer is a great folder of a computer system. It contains all drives and other program. It shows the hard disk portion as a drive.
My Documents:  It is also a folder to store your documents.
My Network Places: My network place is used for browsing though the computer. That is the part of network. It shows all the net work connections.
Windows media player:  it is an application to perform video programs.
Internet Explore: It is an application software use to browsing.
Control Panel: it is a main setting folder of computer.
Recycle bin:  It consists of the deleted item for recovery. We can restore the accidentally deleted item form recycle bin. Or we can delete permanently delete any file from recycle bin.
Help:  This option is allow to user to take a help about any topic by the system directly.
Search: This option use to any file.
Run Command: This option is used to open any program directly.
Shortcut: It is a short way to open any program in any place.
My Recent Documents: It is also folder which is used to store recent files.
Log off: This option is completely arable with the complete concept of multi user settings. If we log off the computer all network has been disconnected and prepare to logging with other account.
Disk Cleanup:  It is used to free up some space on your hard disk by removing.
  1. Temporary internet files.
  2. Removing components and program that you no longer use.
  3. Recycle bin files

o       Start Button→ All program → Accessories → System tools → Disk Cleanup
Disk Defragmenter: Disk Defragmenter consolidating fragmented files and folders on you computer hard disk. It removes the scattered manner of data and set data is contagious.

HOW TO START THE COMPUTER IN MS-WINDOWS MODE?
ü      SWITCH on the electric (AC) power supply.
ü      Switch on the UPS (uninterrupted power supply)
ü      Turn on the power switch of the CPU
ü      Turn on the power switch of the monitor
ü      Just wait few minutes when computer display windows environment.
HOW TO SHUTDOWN THE COMPUTER?
ü      Save and close all the programs
ü      Click on start menu
ü      Click on Turn off computer
Then you will see: -
ü      Stand by
ü      Shut down
ü      Re-start
Click on Turn off
Just wait few minutes, your computer will automatically shutdown.
Desktop Setting:
Ø      Right Click on DesktopClick on properties.
Ø      Start  →Control Panel →Display
Then the following box will occur here:
Themes: Changes the current theme on desktop.
Desktop: Changes the wallpapers or fill color on background of desktop.
Screen Saver: Apply screen saver using photo slideshow, text, flag, ribbons, etc.
Appearance: Just as Themes, but only changes the outlook for windows & have more customizable option.
Setting: Using this feature, resolution & refresh rate of the monitor can be adjusted.

Start button and Taskbar Setting:
Ø      Right click on taskbar →properties.
Ø      Start →Control Panel →Taskbar and Start Menu
You should see the following:
Ø      Lock the Taskbar
Ø      Auto-hide the Taskbar
Ø      Keep the Taskbar on top of other windows
Ø      Group similar Taskbar buttons
Ø      Show quick launch
Ø      Hide Inactive icons

Changing keyboard setting:
Start →Control Panel →Keyboard

Changing Mouse Setting:
Start →Control Panel →Mouse

Changing Time & Date:
Start → Control Panel →date & Time

Organization files and folders:
You can organize the files and folders by using the My computer icon from the desktop.

Creating a new folder:
Double-click My computer and then double-click the disk drive or folder in which you want to place the new folder.
On the file menu, Select New Folder
Or Right click on mouse → new → folder
Type the name of the folder and then press enter

Coping or moving a file or folder:
Select the item
Click on edit →click copy or move
Open folder on which you want to copy the selected item
Click → edit → paste


Deleting the file or folder:
Choose the file or folder
Direct press delete from keyboard
Click on yes, if confirmation is asked.

Renaming a file or folder:
Click the right mouse button on selected item
Click on rename & write a new name
Press enter key.
